Learning how and when to say NO to a perspective commission was a big thing for us. To keep the balance of passion for a commission vs business workflow and success is sometimes a delicate tightrope.
This article (https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/315585) from Jeff Shuey from entrepreneur magazine asks how you use your weekends. Often times our weekends consist of what Jeff would call “catch-up”, working at the shop, creating leather pieces for customers and then heading off to our secondary jobs at a restaurant. Admittedly, it’s not how we prefer to spend our weekends all the time, but the extra “bonus” hours in the shop on Saturday and Sunday help out! And being able to say “no” to projects afford us the time and mental space to forge ahead in our endeavors with a quicker turnaround time, shorter workload and clearer conscience.
If you haven't noticed, we're hard at work over here getting the new website up and running. This kind of thing isn't necessarily our forte, but it IS a necessary evil nonetheless. So if things are a bit disjointed; if the "theme" of the site looks a little different each time you show up, we apologize and don't fret! We're getting there!
The old site was sooo limited in what we could do. This new site (powered by #Weebly ::plug::) allows a lot more flexibility. New features we are really stoked about include: unlimited pictures for each item (our previous site allowed only two), a built in blog (as if you didn't know ;) ) and unlimited categories and sub-categories! And why would you want those you ask? Well, because we do a lot more than just Star Wars-inspired costumes and accessories! However, our previous web solution was really geared toward featuring just one product line. We tried including some of our Steampunk offerings in there for a while, but it just didn't work. The site just appeared to be too Star Wars-centric. And well, to be honest . . . it still kind of does! You know what they say- go with your strengths and all that, hehe! But seriously, now that we have a site that will allow for easy navigation through a variety of product lines, making those available is just what we intend to do! Categories you will see cropping up in the store will include: Steampunk, Pirates, Old West, The Seven Kingdoms line (ooh- what could that be?) and more. And by all means, if there is a genre that you want to see us tackle, please comment below and let us know! What's YOUR dream...?
Until next time, Amy and I are back to it in the shop!
